Strategic Plan Expands Learning Opportunities

The Learner’s Journey has empowered us in new ways to tell the story of SBISD.  The district is rapidly gaining access to more opportunities and partnerships with supporters around the country, with several of our campuses taking part in exciting initiatives this year. Last year, SBISD partnered with Transcend Education, a national organization that supports staff and communities motivated to think differently about the core design of schools. Transcend aims to build and spread breakthrough models that prepare children to thrive in and transform the 21st century.

The partnership with Transcend Education was fully funded by New Schools Venture Fund.  As a result of the partnership’s support at one of our campuses, SBISD is providing a rich, collaborative experience for 10 of our schools in addition to Spring Branch Middle School. We anticipate more unique initiatives, as we all begin to think differently about how to best meet the needs of students and communities.

Also highlighted is an initiative known as Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program (VILS). Verizon awarded SBISD a competitive $1.6 million grant in partnership with Digital Promise, a non-profit group, to provide every student at three schools with personal digital devices. The grant will also provide rich, ongoing staff development. As a grant recipient, SBISD becomes part of a network of other districts around the country engaging in similar work. We’re so excited and grateful for these opportunities and the promise that our strategic plan holds for future partnerships.
